This section is a database of the location of Michigan Civil War Veterans Graves. To view all other pertinent information on Michigan's participation in the war, visit my"Michigan in the Civil War"primary site where regimental histories and regimental rosters containing the names of Michigan's 88,000+ veterans can be viewed in addition to soldier's photographs .

I would ask all of you interested to e-mail Ed & Lois Russell ,   at: orayruss@ees.eesc.com or Don Harvey,  at: michwar1865@aol.com whenever you see a veterans grave site. Make a note of the name, his regiment, date of death and the name and location of the cemetery.

For specific details of Berrien County, Michigan grave sites contact Carolyn Kasischke

I started this site (January 1998) and as yet have recorded, now including National Cemeteries,(-24,778-) names. They will be listed in alphabetical order, last name first in the following table. I have used the following codes to designate special circumstances:

** means that the man also has records listed using a different name spelling
                   (M) means that the stone is a memorial and the man is buried elsewhere
                   (P) means that the Cemetery is Private
(M.O.H.) means that the man is a Medal of honor Recipient

In addition to listing on my website, all of the information sent to us on graves of Civil War Veterans is forwarded to Richard Danes, SUVMIDGRO@aol.com, Graves Registration Officer, Sons of Union Veterans, Graves Registration Project

Unfortunately the lack of web space and the many veterans of the Civil War permit me to list only those men who served in Michigan Regiments or whose records appear in the "Official records of Michigan Soldiers and Sailors in the Civil War"

"A man lives as long..... as he is remembered"

Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.
